A new chapter + a peek at my part-time schedule

Hey Reader,

You signed up a while ago through Mariah’s Money Magic—and I’m so glad you’re here.

A lot has changed since then, including a full rebrand.

This space is now called The Part-Time PT—but don’t worry, the mission hasn’t changed:

I’m here to help you work less, build wealth, and design a career that gives you your life back.

I’m a physical therapist, so yes—I talk a lot about rehab clinicians and healthcare careers.
But the strategies I teach apply way beyond that:

  • Working fewer hours without sacrificing income
  • Building multiple income streams (even if you’re not entrepreneurial)
  • Finding ways to love your work again—or design something new
  • Using money as a tool to create freedom, not just survival

If you’re a burned-out clinician, a purpose-driven professional, or just someone craving more time, peace, and clarity—this is for you.

A peek at my current schedule:

I work 2–4 ten-hour shifts a week, depending on how much I want to work and what the hospital needs.

I’m only required to work 20 hours/week to keep my benefits.
If I want a heavier week, I work more. If I want a lighter week, I scale back.

It’s flexible because I built it that way.

I’ve negotiated a solid pay rate, and I genuinely like my job—so I don’t currently work per diem.
But I could if I wanted to optimize my income further (SNFs and home health often pay more per hour).

That flexibility gives me:

  • Time to travel without using PTO (Japan, Hawaii, Colorado…)
  • Long weekends off just because
  • Space to write, build my business, and create content I love
  • Pottery classes, hikes, and beach days with my dogs
  • Actual rest and margin in my life

This isn’t a fluke.
It’s the result of intention, negotiation, and knowing what I value.

What could your version of this look like?

You might:

  • Work part-time while building a side hustle
  • Pick up per diem work for bonus income
  • Apply for non-clinical or dream jobs while keeping your financial base
  • Or simply work less because... life

Your version doesn’t need to look like mine.
But it starts with asking:

“What do I actually want my days to look like?”

Thinking, “That’s great… but I need money”?

Same. That’s why I didn’t just drop my hours overnight.

I built a strategy that allowed me to invest early, stack income streams, and create flexibility over time.

Now? Even when I work less, my money is still working for me.
And I want to show you how to do the same.

Hey Reader, When I tell people I now earn more working 20 hours/week than I did at my first full-time job, they think I got lucky. But it wasn’t luck. It was the result of every strategic job move, every negotiation, and every hour I didn’t work just to prove I was a “good employee.” Today, I want to show you my actual salary numbers—no fluff, no filters. Just facts and strategy. 💰 My Actual Salary Progression (Pre-Tax, Full-Time Equivalent) I’ve worked as an hourly clinician for my entire...

Hey Reader, If you’ve ever thought:“I’d love to work less, but I need the money…” I get it. I used to think working less meant earning less. But once I stopped chasing full-time by default and started working strategically, my income actually went up—and my burnout went way down. Here’s how I made that happen: 1. I Made My Hours Count (Not all hours are created equal.) Early in my career, I stopped trying to just work more—and started looking for ways to earn more per hour. What that looked...

Mariah Money Magic #2 I don't know who needs to hear this, but It's ok to spend money on yourself. I’m embarrassed to admit this, but in 2020 (pre-pandemic) I turned down an epic trip with family because I had set an arbitrary savings goal for that particular month that I was set on hitting. I won’t lie, I instantly regretted it when I saw all of their pics from the trip posted on Facebook and realized that I’d never get to share in those invaluable memories and laughs that they had shared....
